The nature of this Andean culture has become even more fascinating ever since the discovery of Machu Pichu, hundreds of years after the arrival of the Spaniards, as a secret kept by a whole civilization. Can you imagine? A whole nation not telling anyone about a secret city, and what a city!
I have to confess that I couldn´t keep a secret like that! Could you?
Well, going back to the story… As you probably know this amazing civilization was the last of the great pre-Columbian´s in America that kept its freedom until the conquest of Peru around 1532-1533. This vast empire was ruled by a king who received the name of Inca.
But these were kings with extravagant royalty customs as many as all the other kings you have heard of, maybe even more flamboyant customs. For example, the Inca sat his royal butt in a seat completely made of solid gold, so-called Tiana, every single day. This seat was set on top of a big square table also made of … guess what… yes! Solid gold! The poor guy didn´t have anything less to seat on.
The solid gold table had to be carried by his servants to anywhere the king went to.
